Do CBSE Board Exam Results Really Matter As Much As You Think They Do

Be it any class if you are approaching your 10th or 12th class then you must have heard these Board Exams are of utmost importance, they define you and your career ahead.” We hear it from everyone in our family, relatives, juniors, and seniors but are they actually that important do they decide what we can do or whatnot.

This question does not have a straightforward answer some people who have gone on the path as planned and scored the desired marks got into the dream college and then placement plus those who were denied something based on the board results must agree to the fact the exams are of great importance but what about those who got the desired marks but didn’t do anything which needed the backing of their marks, they might think it does not matter at all.

Human to human and situation to situation this perception changes. Though I agree with the fact that today’s board mark sheet is used more towards as a birth and identification document but they do also hold importance as we are keeping steps towards our journey.

In Fact, I believe all exams do matter. They teach us new things, we grow knowledge-wise and perspective wise as we take an exam but an exam does not define us.

Talking about the board exams, if we are class 10th students on the basis of our 10th board result, we get a chance to decide our future course of action whether we need Arts, Commerce or Science. It completely depends on our board marks irrespective of what we want. If we have scored more we get a chance to choose but if we score less we have no choice we have to pick what we have got. If we are so determined to pursue a specific stream then we might have to either have to change school or take a drop year.

Choosing a stream is very important. It defines the subjects we will study and what we wanna do ahead after school. If we pick up the science stream we can go to become engineers, doctors, and pilots. Similarly, if we take up psychology we can go practicing psychology. Sometimes they are also used as the elimination criteria in some areas but not more than this.

If we go on to 12 board exams they set the criteria of deciding which colleges we will get if are going for merit-based admissions. They also help in admissions abroad as many universities have a set criterion of marks along with other aspects. But other than this 12th marks are generally used as the elimination criteria at places such as B-schools, Job Placements.

So should we take them seriously? To some extent as we just saw our marks matter but they do not decide what we are, what we should do, and what we are meant to do. People are now considering the fact that board marks are not everything and they don’t define us as individuals. I also believe the education bodies are also considering it and welcoming changes. It is said that from 2021 the Central University of the country will shift to CUCET, which is the Central University Common Entrance Test. It proposes that there will be an entrance test for all courses in the university and everyone will be given a fair chance to appear in the exam and score inaptitude to seek admission. If we talk about higher education and job placements almost all companies and B-Schools ask their applicants to take the aptitude and technical test and clear interviews on the basis of which they will select.

Things and perceptions are changing No marks define us and we should also accept that holistic development is what will help us in the long run. How we talk, interact, solve problems and work efficiently is more important than any marks. But it also doesn't matter that marks will never matter. As individuals and especially as students we should try to strive for a balance between studies and activities. Both are important and both will help us in some way or the other. We should keep growing and developing ourselves and that what ultimately matters.
