JoSAA Counselling 2026 Round 2 & 3: Dates, Results, Process & Steps

Thousands of Indian engineering aspirants want to crack the JEE Main and JEE Advanced examinations. After passing the exams successfully, they are supposed to appear for the JoSAA counselling process. The process is conducted in as many as 5 rounds altogether. Know about the second and third rounds of the JoSAA Counselling 2026 process. 

JoSAA Counselling 2026 – An Overview

The JoSAA Counselling process is an admission procedure that is managed by a central body – the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA). It was set up by the Ministry of Education, earlier referred to as the Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD). JoSAA monitors the JoSAA Counselling process every year, and it will be the same in 2026.

JoSAA monitors the admission process for over 100 top engineering colleges in India, including 23 Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), 31 National Institutes of Technology (NITs), 26 Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs), and 54 Government Funded Technical Institutions (GFTIs). JoSAA allocates more than 60,000 seats to candidates who aspire to study in engineering colleges. 

JoSAA Counselling 2026 – Round 2

This round plays a crucial role in the admission process of engineering aspirants. They can get a fresh seat allotted to them or even an upgraded seat, based on their preferences for a better seat. Aspirants can also retain their prior allotment or stay without being allotted any seat, based on their merit or seat availability. 

This year, the Round 2 Seat Allotment Result was released at 5 PM on 30th June, 2026. Candidates can check their result in the official portal for JoSAA counselling.

They have to use their application number for JEE Main or JEE Advanced and their password. 

Downloading Seat Allotment Letter

Following login, they have to download their Seat Allotment Letter immediately. They need to complete all mandatory admission formalities within the specified timeline. 

Uploading documents

Online reporting is scheduled from 30 June to 3 July 2026. During this period, candidates have to upload all the important documents for verification. These include:

  • JEE Rank Card
  • JEE Main/Advanced Admit Card
  • Class 12 Mark Sheet
  • Class 10 Certificate
  • EWS Certificate (if applicable)
  • Category Certificate (if applicable)
  • PwD Certificate (if applicable)
  • Passport-size Photograph
  • Medical Certificate
  • Valid Government Photo ID
  • Cancelled Cheque/Bank Account Proof (if needed

Fee Payment

Then, they are supposed to pay the mandatory Seat Acceptance Fee. They must promptly respond to any verification queries raised by the authorities. Any issues related to payment can be resolved until 4 July 2026. 5th July, 2026 is the final date to respond to document verification queries. 

Reporting process

In this stage, aspirants have to pick from any of the 3 admission options that are available. These include:

·        Freeze: They can accept the seat allotted to them and exit further counselling rounds. 

·        Float: They can retain their existing seat and stay eligible for an institute of higher preference in subsequent rounds. 

·        Slide: They can accept the allotted institute but look for allotment in a better branch within the same institute. 

Candidates have to make a careful choice and go for an option that aligns with their admission objectives. 

Once they get a seat, they have to use the online payment portal to pay the Seat Acceptance Fee (SAF). It can be paid through various payment modes, including UPI, Credit Card, Debit Card and Net Banking. Upon successful payment, candidates will be able to complete the online reporting process. 

Each and every step must be completed within the stipulated deadline. If any candidate fails to complete one or more steps, it may result in cancellation of the allotted seat. 

Once reporting for Round 2 comes to an end, seat allotment for Round 3 will be announced. Eligible aspirants can get upgraded seats. Fresh seats will be filled up. Counselling will go on until the final round, as per the official schedule. For updates and verification queries, candidates need to monitor their JoSAA dashboard regularly. 

JoSAA Counselling 2026 – Round 3

Once aspirants complete all the formalities of JoSAA Round 2 successfully, as per the official JoSAA schedule, the counselling process will move to Round 3.

On 6th July, 2026, the JoSAA Counselling 2026 Round 3 results will be released. Candidates have to check the official portal to access their seat allotment letter instantly.

They have to use their application number for JEE Main or JEE Advanced and their password. Once they do this, they can access their personal dashboard at the portal.

Next, they have to click on the Round 3 Seat Allotment link that will be available on July 6, 2026. Candidates have to specifically choose the link for Round 3. Clicking on a previous round may show outdated allotment details. 

Download the letter

It is essential to view and download the Seat Allotment letter. The result for seat allotment will display:

·        Name of the institute,

·        Programme,

·        Category, and

·        Reporting deadline

Aspirants also have to download and print the letter, so that it can be used during the stage of document verification. 

Respond with care

Based on whether or not you are satisfied with the seat that is allotted, you have to choose from Freeze, Float or Slide options. Your choice will decide whether you will take part in further rounds or confirm your allotted seat as the final one.

Do not be concerned if your portal displays the message “Seat Not Allotted”. It means there has been no seat allocation in Round 3, based on your preferences. But you will automatically be considered for participation in the subsequent rounds of counselling.

What To Do After Checking Your Round 3 Result?

After you check your result for Round 3 in July 2026, you need to complete 3 mandatory actions within the specified deadline.

Complete online reporting

You have to log in to the official portal and confirm the seat allocated to you. To do this, you have to complete the online reporting procedure. This will kickstart the process for uploading the necessary documents and paying the fees. 

Upload your documents

Within the specified deadline you have to upload all the necessary documents through the official portal for JoSAA. Make sure that every document that you upload is clear, not blurry or smudgy in any way, and uploaded in the right format.

Pay the seat acceptance fee

You have to finalize your seat allotment. To do this, pay the seat acceptance fee online. Before you make the payment, keep your UPI or net banking details close at hand.

When you have to finalize your seat allotment for Round 3, you have to complete online reporting, uploading of documents and paying the seat acceptance fee within the scheduled deadline. If you fail to complete any of these steps, your seat may get cancelled.
