Undergraduate Studies in Hotel Management in India

Minimum qualification necessary for a hotel management course is 10+2. Depending on the cost and duration of the course, one can opt for a certificate ,diploma or degree course. Certificate courses can be of six months to one year duration, a diploma of two years and a degree course of three to four year duration. Degree is the most acceptable at most of the job interviews and candidates get better salaries. The fees for this course is higher. Diploma in hotel management is of one or two year course. Certificate courses are usually of one year duration.

Bachelor of Hotel Management
It is a regular fully residential 4 years long Undergraduate program. The 4 years course is divided into 8 semesters.The course will help develop skills that will help graduates thrive in the hotel as well as tourism Management sector. Entrepreneurial skills are also honed during this course.
Diploma in Hotel Management Diploma in Hotel Management program is of one year duration! In this span of 1 year, students will be given theoretical as well as practical knowledge. But a Diploma in Hotel Management will not be as valuable as a Bachelor’s Degree for career prospects.
BBA in Hotel Management B.B.A. or Bachelor of Business Administration is an Undergraduate program that lasts for 3 years. Many BBA  programs are available that allows students to specialise in Hotel Management in the last year of the program and thus teach management skills that are required for the Hotel and Tourism Industry!
B.Sc in Hotel Management and Catering This is a 3 years course and thus a little shorter than the BHM.This too lays importance on theoretical as well as practical knowledge in all subjects required for hotel management.
Bachelor in Hotel Management and Catering Technology (BHMCT)

Offered at the undergraduate level, BHMCT course is of four years duration. In majority of the colleges it is divided into eight semesters. In this course aspirants are taught theory as well as practical subjects. As part of this course students are offered industrial training in spheres such as food and beverage service, food production, front desk operations and housekeeping. Many colleges that offer BHMCT course make it mandatory for students to undergo industrial training of 20 weeks.

 

BA in Hotel Management

BA in Hotel or Hospitality Management is also known as Hotel Administration or Hotel and Tourism Management. This course offers students a broad perspective of the subject in specialty areas such as lodging and facilities management, food and beverage industry, IT and communications, event management and tourism industry.

BA (Hons) in Hotel Management This is the most advanced version of the BA in Hotel management. Studies are more comprehensive and it is usually of four years duration. Fourth year is usually the internship year. It offers better job prospects than BA in hotel management.
BA (Hons) in Culinary Arts

If one just wants to become a Chef, then this is the course for them. BHM or

Bachelor of Hotel Management
Students who have cleared 12th standard examinations, from all streams, are eligible to apply for this course. Minimum marks criteria exists in case of many Institutes. It may vary between 45-50% marks, in 12th Board examinations.

DHM or

Diploma in Hotel Management
Students who have completed 12th standard schooling (any stream) are eligible to apply for this program. 10th standard passed students are eligible to pursue this course in some colleges.
BBA in Hotel Management

Students who have passed 12th standard (any stream) are eligible to pursue this course.

B.Sc in Hotel Management and Catering

Students who have passed 12th standard (any stream) are eligible to apply for this course. The admission is based a merit list prepared on the basis of class 12 marks.

Bachelor in Hotel Management and Catering Technology (BHMCT)

One can pursue BHMCT course right after completing their 10+2. Students from any stream, can apply for Bachelor of Hotel Management and Catering Technology course. Some colleges might have additional eligibility criteria that aspirants need to fulfil. A candidate should have secured at least 50% aggregate marks in their Class 12 exams. English language proficiency is a must. 10+2 level.  

BA in Hotel Management Qualifying 10+2 with 50% aggregate and above in any relevant stream from a recognised university/ Passing entrance examination. Some colleges conduct an entrance exam for the same.

NCHMCT JEE scores are valid for 21 Central Institutes, 14 State Government Institutes and 15 private institutes of Hotel Management.

It is conducted jointly with National Council of Hotel Management and Catering Technology and Indira Gandhi National Open University.

This test is for B.Sc in Bachelor of Hotel Management and Catering Technology

IIHM eCHAT UG

International Institute of Hotel Management (IIHM) conducts Electronic Common Hotel Admission Test (eCHAT) for  admission in hotel management programmes on offer by the institute. This test is also called Combined Hospitality Aptitude Test.

After clearing IIHM eCHAT 2020, candidates are further shortlisted for admission on the basis of their performance in the group discussion and personal interview round.

IIHM eCHAT is conducted online and the aptitude report of the aspirants is emailed to them within 24 hours.

Its a paper based test and usually held in May of each year. This test is held for the following colleges. It comprises of multiple choice questions.

UPSEE BHMCT entrance exam provides admission to Undergraduate courses in Hospitality and Management for he state of UP. This is for Bachelor of Hotel Management and Catering Technology and is conducted by Dr. A P J Abdul Kalam Technical University, Uttar Pradesh, Lucknow.

UPSEE BHMCT 2018 is a State Level Entrance examination, forms of which are usually available from February 2020 and conducted in the month of April 2018. It is carried out in the online mode and minimum requirement to appear for the entrance exam is 10+2 with at least 45% of marks.

UKSEE BHMCT UG Uttarakhand State Entrance Examination is conducted for Bachelor of Hotel Management course. The UKSEE BHMCT exam is a computer-based test and qualifying candidates will seek admission at any one of the five participating institutes, out which 3 are private remaining two are government institutes- Govt. Institute of Hotel Management, Almora and Govt. Institute of Hotel Management & Catering Technology, Dehradun.
MAH CET HM UG & PG

Directorate of Technical Education (DTE), Maharashtra conducts MAH HM CET for admission in Hotel Management and Catering Technology (HMCT) programmes offered at bachelors and masters levels. MAH HM CET is for all admissions in colleges/ universities offering BHMCT and MHMCT programmes which are approved and recognised by Government of Maharashtra.

Maharashtra Hotel Management Common Entrance Test (MAH HM CET) is an online entrance exam conducted at different cities across India. All candidates who are Indian nationals are eligible to apply for MAH HM CET entrance exam.
WBJEE HM UG

The West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination Board (WBJEE) conducts WB JEOM or WBHEE HM. It is a yearly entrance examination conducted for admission to the undergraduate course of Hotel Management and Catering Technology (HMCT) in West Bengal.

The application form of WB JEHOM id available in April and exam is held in July in offline mode.  This exam is held for 220 seats in the various institutions combined. IPU CET BHMCT UG

Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, popularly known as Indraprastha University conducts entrance exam for Banarsidas Chandiwala Institute of Hotel Management & Catering Technology (BCIHMCT), which runs four year BHMCT program, as per the curriculum designed by Indraprastha University.

The BHMCT program is divided into eight semesters each of five months duration. Admission to this course is through IPUCET (BHMCT).
PUTHAT UG

Panjab University conducts Panjab University Tourism and Hospitality Aptitude Test (PUTHAT) in offline mode each year in the month of May. PUTHAT is a yearly entrance examination conducted for admission to graduate courses of Hotel Management and Catering Technology and Tourism and Travel Management. courses under the University Institute of Hotel and Tourism Management (UIHTM).

There are 90 seats available (additional 9 seats for NRIs) through PUTHAT 2019. Admission of candidates to both these courses are based on merit rank obtained in the entrance examination of PUTHAT.
