The registration process for JoSAA commences after final results are announced of JEE Advanced. The official link for registration is activated in the official website and candidates can start registering. Students who have qualified JEE Mains or Advanced and are seeking admissions in any of the participating institutes have to register for JoSAA.
What is JoSAA
The Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) 2020 has been set up by the Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD) to manage and regulate the joint seat allocation for admissions to 110 Engineering institutes for each academic year. This includes 23 IITs, 31 NITs, IIEST Shibpur, 26 IIITs and 29 Other-Government Funded Technical Institutes (Other-GFTIs). Admission to all the academic programs offered by these Institutes are made through a single platform. It is imperative for students to keep a watch on the official website, as there could be changes in dates etc.

Details about JoSAA Registration & Choice Filling
Step 1:
Log-in to account using their JEE Main roll number and password. For candidates who have registered for JEE Advanced, then such candidates will have to use their JEE Advanced password to log-in.
Step 2:
After log-in, fill up the details. Apart from contact information, no other personal data can be modified during registration.
Step 3:
After registration to fill choices of branches and colleges in order of their preference. As per the candidate’s qualification, the available choices for admission will be listed.
Step 4:
Choices are locked and a print out of the selected options for the future reference is taken
Number of Mock Rounds
These are two in number. With mock allotment candidates will know their chances in their desired colleges based on their rank and preference. Once knowing this, candidates will be able to modify their selected choices of colleges and courses accordingly. After the declaration of mock allotment result candidates will be given enough time to modify their preference.
Number of rounds of seat allocation:
JoSAA will conduct six rounds that is 1st through 6th rounds of seat allocation for academic programs offered by Institutes under JoSAA.
All the candidates who appeared for JEE (Main) / JEE (Advanced) should take note of the following important points:
Registration:
All candidates who have appeared in JEE (Main) are eligible to register for seat allocation in NIT+ system (except IITs). All candidates who have declared qualified in JEE (Adv) are eligible to register for seat allocation in all participating Institutes.
Filling-in of choices:
Candidates may fill-in their choices of Institutes and branches in decreasing order of their preference. Candidates are strongly urged to fill-in as many choices of their interest as possible.
Locking of choices:
Candidates MUST “lock” their choices. For candidates who do NOT lock their choices, their last saved choices will be locked automatically when the time-window for filling-in of choices closes.
Seat acceptance:
Candidates allotted a seat must pay the seat acceptance fee (through SBI e-Challan/SBI NetBanking/SBI debit cards) and get the documents verified at any reporting center (josaa.nic.in) for provisional seat acceptance .
Participation in subsequent rounds:
A candidate is required to fill option for ‘freeze’, ‘slide’ or ‘float’ the choice of academic program.
Dual Reporting:
If in a subsequent round, a candidate’s allotment from NIT+ system changes to an IIT, the candidate MUST report ONCE AGAIN at an IIT reporting centre, similarly if a candidate’s allotment from IIT changes to an NIT+ system, the candidate MUST report ONCE AGAIN at any NIT+ reporting centre, failure to do so will result in forfeiture of seats allocated in both NIT+ system and IIT.
Withdraw option:
A candidate, who has already accepted a seat, can withdraw the seat by reporting at a reporting centre up to fifth round of seat allocation.
Note:
1. Candidates who does NOT register within the specified time window WILL NOT be able to seek admission for the academic year.
2. Candidates who do NOT fill-in choices within the specified time window WILL NOT be able to seek admission for the academic year
3. No modification of locked choices – once locked, choices CANNOT be modified.
4. Two times reporting required in case of seat allotment changes from NIT+s system to IITs and vice versa.
Important:
For the purpose of allocating seats for NITs, IIEST and Other-GFTIs, candidates are also assigned a state code of eligibility. State code of eligibility means the code of the state from where the candidate has passed Class XII (or equivalent) examination by virtue of which the candidate becomes eligible to appear in JEE (Main) The codes of the states are same as those given in the JEE (Main) Information Bulletin.
JoSAA Eligibility Criteria
No specify eligibility criteria of JoSAA has been defined. However, candidates appearing for the JoSAA must satisfy the eligibility criteria of its participating institutes. For admissions into various NITs, IIITs and CFTIs, candidates will have to meet the JEE Main eligibility criteria along with qualifying the examination.
For admissions to IITs, candidates will to have qualify and meet the eligibility criteria of JEE Advanced.

New dates and time are usually announced after the final result of JEE Advanced is announced, and so will be done this year too. Dates for 2020 were delayed due to Covid-19 epidemic.

Summary of JoSAA Counselling 2020
1. All the eligible candidates will have to register and fill their choices in order of their preference within the given deadline.
2. Once the registration and choice filling of JoSAA 2020 is over, mock allotment is done in two rounds.
3. Based on the mock allotment result candidates will modify their preference of course and colleges.
4. After that the seat allocation is done in 6 rounds for all qualified candidates. The seat allotment of JoSAA 2020 is done based on the merit of the candidates and his/her selected preferences.
5. Candidates who are allotted seats will download allotment letters, pay the seat acceptance fees and then report at the reporting centres for document verification.
6. Once the documents are verified, candidates will report to the allotted institute to confirm their seat.
JoSAA Seat Allotment 2020
7. The seat allotment of JoSAA 2020 will be held in 6 rounds along with the two mock allocation.
8. Based on the performance in the qualifying examination (JEE Main or JEE Advanced) and choices filled during registration, all the registered candidates will be allocated seats.
9. To view the result of seat allotment, candidates will have to log-in into their account using their JEE Main roll number and password.
10. Candidates who are allotted seats will have to download the provisional allotment letter and pay the seat acceptance fee of Rs. 35,000.
11. Once the seat acceptance fees is done, candidates will have to report to the reporting centre (RC) for document verification.
12. However, if a candidate is not satisfied with the seat allotted to him/her they will have the following options to carry out.
• Floating: This option is for those candidates who wish to accept the offered seat but also looking for upgradation if admissions are open in a better/higher preferred institute or course.
• Freezing: If a candidate exercise this option, it will indicate that candidate has accepted the allotted seats and do not wish to participate in further rounds.
• Sliding: If this option used, it will mean that candidates has accepted the allotted seat, however, if admissions are open in a better course in the same institute then he/she will go for upgradation.
15. Finally candidates will report to their allotted institutes to confirm admission by paying remaining academic fees.
