IC3 Movement

The 2018 Annual International Career and College Counselling (IC3) Conference that concluded on August 30 in New Delhi acknowledged that India's 350 million students -- the biggest student population in the world -- need at least 1.4 million career counsellors to maintain a globally acceptable student-to-school-counsellor ratio.

More than 100 speakers spoke about issues related to career counselling during the 3rd edition of the IC3 Conference. The conference provided a very useful platform to discuss new ideas and opportunities in global higher education and student counselling. IC3 Conference mission is to empower schools to build and maintain robust, well -resourced and research-oriented career and college counselling offices. The IC3 Conference brings together school leaders, counsellors and university delegates to drive forward the concept of career counselling in all institutes. It is held annually by the IC3 Institute.

The IC3 (International Career & College Counselling) Institute is a volunteer organization that provides support to high schools around the world through guidance and training resources for high school administrators, teachers and counsellors. The IC3 Institute helps schools with a variety of priorities including establishing a counselling office, training human resources and providing access to a repository of remote training and professional development resources. The IC3 Institute has aimed to train 100,000 professionals in the next 15 years to better equip professionals in the field through training and resources.

Through events like the IC3 annual Conference and IC# Regional Forums, , IC3 aims to sensitize leaders of educational institutions around the world to the need and criticality of a career counselling department in schools, colleges and universities. They encourage setting up and maintaining of this office in their schools, and for university leaders to take a counselling-oriented approach to recruitment and outreach.

IC3 advocates for counselling to begin directly from class 8 or 9, with a complete curriculum for counselling in each grade throughout high school. It provides counsellors with the tools necessary to build these processes through IC3 events and the IC3 Institute’s one-year certificate program.

The IC3 Regional Forums are a series of one-day events in high schools across India, South Asia, Southeast Asia, the Middle East and Oceania, organized by the IC3 Conference Committees. The IC3 Regional Forums are aligned with IC3’s mission to empower schools to build and maintain robust, well-resourced and research-oriented career and college counselling offices. The IC3 Regional Forums allow hundreds of schools that have limited resources for travel and training of their principals, teachers, and counsellors to participate locally.

Hosted at local high schools, the IC3 Regional Forums are a series of one-day events that provide an opportunity for learning and new knowledge creation along with networking. Counsellors, teachers, and principals from the local area interact with universities from across the globe. The curriculum of these forums is available on their IC3 website. The next conference is being organized in Mumbai, India in August, 2019.
