VIT Research Entrance Examination July 2020 or VITREE July 2020 is the entrance examination for admission to Ph.D. (Engg.), M.Tech. - Ph.D. (Engg.) (Integrated), Ph.D. (Science), Ph.D. (Language), Ph.D. (Management) and other courses. VITREE July 2020 is conducted by Vellore Institute Of Technology.

The duration of the exam will be 120 minutes. The result date will be announced later.

VITREE July 2020 Eligibility Criteria

(10+2+4+2 or any equivalent for Ph.D. in Engineering )

(10+2+3+2 or any equivalent for Ph.D. in Non-Engineering )

(10+2+5 year Integrated M.Tech. programs in Engg. & Integrated. M.Sc. (Biotech) in Non-Engg. )

For Ph.D. in Engineering:

1. Master’s degree in Engineering/Technology in the relevant discipline with a first-class or a minimum of 60% marks/ CGPA 6.5 on a 10 point scale in cases where the University/Institute does not award any class or 

2. Equivalent qualifications like M.Sc. (Engineering) / M.S. [By Research.] / M.Tech [By Research].

3. For all the Research Programmes, it is mandatory that the candidate should have studied in regular, full time and formal education in their previous degree programs (UG and PG). 

4. M.Sc Computer Science, M.Sc(IT), MCA and M.S.(Software Engg.) degree holders are not eligible to apply for PhD.   Program. 

For Integrated Ph.D. in Engineering / Technology:

Bachelor’s Students with an outstanding academic record in the Bachelor’s degree in Engineering Technology with an aptitude towards advanced scientific and technological research are eligible to apply. A minimum of 80% marks or a CGPA  of 8.0 is mandatory. Candidates who are appearing for the final examination can also apply provided they meet all the requirements before admission. 

For Ph. D in Sciences :

Master’s degree in the relevant discipline of Science with a first class (or a minimum of 60% marks/CGPA 6.5 on a 10 point scale in cases where the University/ Institute does not award any class). 

For Ph. D in Languages:

Master’s degree with a minimum of 55% marks or 6.0 CGPA

For Ph. D in Management:

Master in Business Administration or M.E./ M.Tech. with a first class or a minimum of 60% marks/CGPA 6.5 on a 10 point scale in cases where the University/Institute does not award any class. 

For Ph.D. in Law

Master's Degree in law (LLM/ML) from any recognized University/Institute, in the relevant field with a minimum of 55% marks or 6.0 CGPA. 

For Ph. D in Fashion Technology:

M.Tech./M.E./M.Fashion Tech/M.S.[By Research]/M.Tech[By Research] in the field of Textile/Textile Engineering/Fibre Science/Textile Chemical Processing/Fashion/Apparel/Garment with a first-class or a minimum of 60% marks/CGPA 6.5  on a 10 point scale in cases where the University/Institute does not award any class.

Test Centre Details

• The information of the Test centre allocated is provided along with admit card.

• It includes the address of the centre.

• One should locate the centre on Google Maps.

• It is a good practice and strongly advised to visit the centre one day before to know about the time taken to reach the centre. By doing so one can reach well in time on the examination day. It prevents wastage of time trying to locate the centre and thus avoids the stress created, if the centre is not easy to find.

General Instructions for filling up the Application Form

Students applying for the  VITREE July 2020 have to fill up the application form on the official site.

A student can submit the application for only once; multiple forms will be rejected

The submission is ONLINE only no need to send the filled-in application form/certificates by post to vit.

Requirements to be readied before you start filling up the Application Form of VITREE July 2020

  • PC or a Laptop with Internet connectivity
  • Qualification details
  • Scanned copy of passport photograph Scanned copy of signature 
  • Functional e-mail Id as all communication are made through email; Parents email id is recommended.
  • Mobile number as all information is sent through SMS too. Parents phone number can be used.
  • For online payments, usually a valid debit or credit card as well as Net B facility, UPI or PAYTM Service is a must.
  • Printer is required for keeping hard copies; if there is no printer, one can save the printouts, transfer them on to a pen drive and get it printed from a cyber-café.
  • It is recommended to download the information Bulletin Brochure and read it carefully so that you understand various requirements to fill-up the form.


Candidates are not allowed to make any corrections at a later stage after submission of an application. Or correction is entertained via post, fax, email or by hand.

STATISTICS & PROBABILITY (15 QUESTIONS)

Unit 1: Statistics

VITREE July 2020 Exam Day Instructions

Examination Day Instructions

The Admit Card can be downloaded from VITREE July 2020 date onwards from the official site. Once it is downloaded it should be printed. Instructions on the Admit Card should be read carefully as very important details may be provided along with the Admit Card. The following information is provided with the admit card:

  • Roll Number
  • Name and place along with the address of the Exam or Test entre
  • Date of the Exam
  • Timings of the exam
  • Timings of the exam
  • Photo to be fixed on the admit card, if required
  • Copy of the passport sized photo may be required to be taken to the Test Centre.
  • Information is also provided about the identity related documents to be taken to the Exam centre.
  • These may include Aadhaar Card, Driving Licence, Passport, voter card etc. The chosen identity related documents should be readied.
  • Instructions will also be provided about any other document required.
  • Instructions about any photocopying documents will also be provided.
  • Stationary related information is also provided with the Admit Card.

Preparation for the Exam Day

  • The Admit card should be downloaded and printed immediately.
  • A few copies of the Admit Card should be kept in reserve as these are also used at the time of admission and counseling.
  • Documents to be taken to the Exam centre should be kept ready
  • Stationary related articles as mentioned should be kept ready.
  • Dress related details will also be provided in the prospectus as well as with the admit card and should be followed.
  • Items not to be taken to the Exam centre or barred should be noted

Before entering the Exam Centre

  • Try to reach the exam centre one hour prior to the time advised in the admit card.
  • Before leaving for the site, please have a hearty breakfast or light lunch depending on the session. Drink plenty of fluids; as in summers dehydration can set in affecting your performance in the exam.
  • Have a cookie or chocolate just before entering the center; this prevents hypoglycemia and thus helps you stay alert longer improving your results.
  • If it is a busy center, then don’t wait till last for the entry and security check.
  • Centre will not allow you to enter after the stipulated time of closing the doors.
  • Admission to the Exam Centre is with the Admit Card; no candidates shall be admitted to the test without the production of the Admit Card at the Test Centre.
  • Usually, no bags are allowed.
  • No eatables are allowed.
  • No communication equipment such as mobile phones/pager/ wireless set, scanner, camera or any such electronic/digital gadget, etc are allowed in the exam center; carrying one will lead to disqualification.

After entering the centre

  • Once candidates enter the centre, they should locate their designated hall and seat.
  • If mentioned, candidates will be hand frisked as well as photographed or video graphed before entering the centre
  • After all the formalities, candidates should enter the allotted hall and take the designated seat.
  • For Objective Type question papers, rough work is to be done in the space provided for this purpose. No rough work is allowed on the OMR Answer Sheet under any situation.
  • Questions have to be answered on the answer sheet only.
  • Copying, use of unfair means of any kind, talking, asking questions from other candidates or borrowing of material inside the Test Centre is strictly prohibited.
  • The candidates are to return their OMR answer-sheets and the question paper in full to the Centre Superintendent. Tearing or taking away the question paper is not allowed failing which the candidates shall be disqualified from the entire Entrance Test.
  • Smoking is not allowed.
  • Misbehavior of any kind can lead to the expulsion of the candidate.
  • Caught copying helping in copying will mean cancellation of the answer sheet/cancellation of the candidature.
  • Marking the answer sheet or question paper in any way will also lead to the cancellation of the exam for that candidate.
