Indian Institute of Technology, Goa for Ph.D. Entrance Exam (Autumn) 2020 or IIT, Goa Ph.D. Entrance Exam (Autumn) 2020 is the entrance examination for admission to Ph.D. (Engg.), Ph.D. (Science) and Ph.D. (Humanities and Social Science). IIT, Goa Ph.D. Entrance Exam (Autumn) 2020 is conducted by Indian Institute of Technology, Goa.

The application forms will be available from 04/04/2020 till 10/05/2020. The exam is in written mode. It is being conducted in English language. The result date will be announced later.

IIT, Goa Ph.D. Entrance Exam 2020 (Autumn) Eligibility Criteria

Minimum Eligibility Criteria

  • General Eligibility Criteria for Engineering Streams
    • For General/OBC(NCL)/EWS Categories
      • Master’s Degree in Engineering/Technology or equivalent degree with a minimum of 60% marks in aggregate OR
      • A minimum CGPA/CPI of 6.0 on a scale of 10 or an equivalent to 6.0 on other corresponding proportional requirements when the scales are other than 10.
      • B. Tech/M. Sc in Engineering/Technology or equivalent degree with a minimum of 70% marks in aggregate OR
      • A minimum CGPA/CPI of 7.0 on a scale of 10 or an equivalent to 7.0 on other corresponding proportional requirements when the scales are other than 10. and Additional requirements as listed in Annexure 1 below.
    • For SC/ST/PwD
      • Master’s Degree in Engineering/Technology or equivalent degree with a minimum of 55% marks in aggregate. OR 
      • A minimum CGPA/CPI of 5.5 on a scale of 10 or an equivalent to 5.5 on other corresponding proportional requirements when the scales are other than 10.
      • B. Tech/M. Sc in Engineering/Technology or equivalent degree with a minimum of 65% marks in aggregate OR 
      • A minimum CGPA/CPI of 6.5 on a scale of 10 or an equivalent to 6.5 on other corresponding proportional requirements when the scales are other than 10. And Additional requirements as listed in Annexure 1 below
    • For IIT B.Tech. and M.Tech. degree holders
      • Candidates having a last qualifying degree (i.e. B.Tech. or M.Tech. degree) from IITs with a CGPA/CPI score of 8 on a scale of 10 and above may be admitted to the Ph.D. program under TA or TAP positions through written test and/or interview.
  • General Eligibility Criteria for Science Streams
    • For GEN/OBC(NCL)/EWS
      • Master’s Degree in Science or equivalent degree with a minimum of 60% marks in aggregate. OR A minimum CGPA/CPI of 6.0 on a scale of 10 or an equivalent to 6.0 on other corresponding proportional requirements when the scales are other than 10.
    • For SC/ST/PwD
      • Master’s Degree in Science or equivalent degree with a minimum of 55% marks in aggregate OR A minimum CGPA/CPI of 5.5 on a scale of 10 or an equivalent to 5.5 on other corresponding proportional requirements when the scales are other than 10.

Notes: Please note that, School of Physical Sciences (Physics) limited its admission to students who are externally funded, i.e. students with UGC, CSIR or INSPIRE qualification.

  • General Eligibility Criteria for Humanities and Social Sciences (HSS) Stream
    • For GEN/OBC(NCL)/EWS
      • Master’s Degree in Arts or equivalent degree in allied subjects with a minimum of 60% marks in aggregate OR A minimum CGPA/CPI of 6.0 on a scale of 10 or an equivalent to 6.0 on other corresponding proportional requirements when the scales are other than 10.
    • For SC/ST/PwD
      • Master’s Degree in Arts or equivalent degree in allied subjects with a minimum of 55% marks in aggregate OR A minimum CGPA/CPI of 5.5 on a scale of 10 or an equivalent to 5.5 on other corresponding proportional requirements when the scales are other than 10.

Annexure 1

Candidates eligible in sections 1.1.1(2), 1.1.2(2), I.2, and I.3 must fulfil ONE of the following additional requirements

  • Valid GATE Score in the relevant streams
  • Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) of CSIR/ UGC/ NBHM/ DBT/ ICAR/ ICMR/ ICPR or DST INSPIRE Fellowship in the relevant streams.
  • Candidates having UGC-NET Lectureship (LS) or M.Phil. in relevant discipline are also eligible for Teaching Assistantship in addition to other academic qualifications in the Humanities & Social Sciences stream. Candidates with exceptional academic record without UGC-NET will also be considered based on their score in the written test and interview conducted by the SHSS.
  • Minimum of 2 years of professional experience (acquired after obtaining the qualifying degree and completed before the starting of the semester in which admission is sought) in the relevant areas. This criterion is only applicable for 1.1.1(2) and 1.1.2(2) given above.
  • School of Electrical Sciences and Mechanical Sciences offer TA through Project (TAP) category based on their availability. The eligibility criteria for TAP category is same is that of TA category. The duration of funding for a TAP category Ph.D. student is for a minimum of 3 years and only till the tenure of the project. The applicant must submit an undertaking for selffinance for the period after the project funding.

    Application Form Filling Instructions

    Students applying for the IIT, Goa Ph.D. Entrance Exam 2020 (Autumn) have to fill up the application form on the official site.

    The student can submit the application only once. Multiple forms will be rejected. 

    Requirements to be readied before you start filling up the Application Form of IIT, Goa Ph.D. Entrance Exam 2020 (Autumn)

    • PC or a Laptop with Internet connectivity
    • Qualification details
    • Candidate is required to upload recent Photograph (Maximum 12KB), scanned copy of Signature (Maximum 12KB), detailed CV and Marksheets as per eligibility (Maximum 400KB).
    • Functional e-mail Id as all communication are made through email; Parents email id is recommended.
    • Mobile number as all information is sent through SMS too. Parents phone number can be used.
    • For online payments, usually a valid debit or credit card as well as Net B facility, UPI or PAYTM Service is a must.
    • Printer is required for keeping hard copies; if there is no printer, one can save the printouts, transfer them on to a pen drive and get it printed from a cyber-café.
    • It is recommended to download the information Bulletin Brochure and read it carefully so that you understand various requirements to fill up the form.

    Examination Day Instructions

    Preparation for the Exam Day

    • The Admit card should be downloaded and printed Immediately.
    • A few copies of the Admit Card should be kept in reserve as these are also used at the time of admission and counselling.
    • Photo to be fixed on the admit card, if required
    • Documents to be taken to the Exam centre should be kept ready.
    • Copy of the photo may be required to be taken to the Test Centre.
    • Stationary related articles as mentioned should be kept ready.
    • Dress related details will also be provided in the prospectus as well as with the admit card and should be followed.
    • Items not to be taken to the Exam centre or barred should be noted.

    Before entering the Exam Centre

    • Try to reach the exam centre one hour prior to the time advised in the admit card.
    • Before leaving for the site, please have a hearty breakfast or light lunch depending on the session. Drink plenty of fluids; as in summers dehydration can set in affecting your performance in the exam.
    • Have a cookie or a chocolate just before entering the centre; this prevents hypoglycaemia and thus helps you stay alert longer improving your results.
    • If it is a busy centre, then don’t wait till last for the entry and security check.
    • Centre will not allow you to enter after the stipulated time of closing the doors.
    • Admission to the Exam Centre is with the Admit Card; no candidates shall be admitted to the test without the production of the Admit Card at the Test Centre.
    • Usually no bags are allowed.
    • No eatables are allowed.
    • No communication equipment such as mobile phones / pager/ wireless set, scanner, camera or any such electronic / digital gadget etc are allowed in the exam centre; carrying one will lead to disqualification.

    After entering the centre

    • Once candidates enter the centre, they should locate their designated hall and seat.
    • If mentioned, candidates will be hand frisked as well as photographed or video graphed before entering the centre
    • After all the formalities, candidates should enter the allotted hall and take the designated seat.
    • For Objective Type question papers, rough work is to be done in the space provided for this purpose. No rough work is allowed on the OMR Answer Sheet under any situation.
    • Questions have to be answered on the answer sheet only.
    • Copying, use of unfair means of any kind, talking, asking questions from other candidates or borrowing of material inside the Test Centre is strictly prohibited.
    • The candidates are to return their OMR answer-sheets and the question paper in full to the Centre Superintendent. Tearing or taking away of the question paper is not allowed failing which the candidates shall be disqualified from the entire Entrance Test.
    • Misbehaviour of any kind can lead to expulsion of the candidate.
    • aught copying helping in copying will mean cancellation of the answer sheet/cancellation of the candidature.
    •  Marking the answer sheet or question paper in any way will also lead to cancellation of the exam for that candidate.
