Integrated Degree Vs. Dual Degree

Both dual and integrated degrees are very different from each other, even though they may sound similar and are often confused for each other by most people. This can make it especially hard to make a choice between the two since to make any decision, you first need to know your options. Primary Difference

The primary difference between integrated and dual degrees is that while on completion, a dual degree will award you two certificates, an integrated degree will award you a combined degree. This may deter some students from joining integrated degree courses, however in reality, this does not affect the value of the degree.

Streams and Universities

Both integrated and dual degrees are sought-after in all streams, and this makes them hold a high value in terms of job prospects. These courses are available in most government and private colleges in India including IIT, IIM, NMIMS, etc. This makes the value of the course further increase since it also comes with the value of a good university.

Time

Both Integrated degrees and dual degrees allow students to save a year of their lives by completing both graduation and post-graduation in 5 years, however there is a difference in flexibility. This means that dual degrees allow both degrees to be from different fields of study, e.g. MBA Tech = BTech + MBA.  This is not the case in integrated degrees as they allow students to only pursue their degrees from the same course, e.g. Integrated MTech = BTech + MTech.

Opting Out

Another benefit shown by dual degrees over integrated ones is that they allow students to opt out. This way students can complete their bachelor’s degree in only 3 years and opt out of the course if they do not want to pursue the second degree.
